Diving gannets necklace
Hand fabricated in sterling silver, fine silver and 24k gold foil. The 3 sections of the necklace represent diving gannets – as they fold back their wings they can enter the water at speeds up to 100km/hr. The black wingtips are darkened by oxidising the silver with liver of sulphur, and the yellow feathers of the head and neck are made from 24k gold foil, bonded to fine silver using the keum boo technique.

The pieces I create start from observations of New Zealand’s flora, fauna and landscapes, and a desire to translate them into objects. I also draw inspiration from found objects, historical traditions and the materials themselves.
