Jenny Mason
The pieces I create start from observations of New Zealand’s flora, fauna and landscapes, and a desire to translate them into objects. I also draw inspiration from found objects, historical traditions and the materials themselves.
I craft each piece by hand at my studio on Waiheke Island. Problem solving is integral to metalwork, and often the most satisfying aspect of creation is finding a solution to the unique challenge of a design.
I trained in metalsmithing at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, where the unique alchemy of working with silver had me instantly hooked. Since moving to Waiheke Island in 1998, I have worked as a graphic designer and jeweler, exhibiting at [ s p a c e ], the Waiheke Community Art Gallery and Compendium Gallery in Auckland.
